1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
Abortion remains slap-dab atop the list of hot debates. Pro-lifers say life begins at conception and, therefore, abortion is murder. Prochoicers say life does NOT begin at conception and,
even if it does, a woman has the right to choose what is done with her own body. Abortion is legalized by Roe vs Wade. But is the practice of abortion justified by its legality?
Fornication is legal. Homosexual lifestyle is legal. Gluttony is legal. But should these destructive behaviors be practiced? No! You see where I’m going! We should not blame a crutch for the broken leg. The legalization of abortion, does not justify, nor should the legalization be an excuse for…the aborting of countless babies by women who are not in crisis…but are simply ‘inconvenienced.’When addressing other vices, both sides would likely agree that legalization of vice or perversion does not justify, excuse, nor should the legalization be blamed for….one choosing to practice the vice simply because it is legal. Legalization of gambling does not justify, nor should the legalization be an excuse for…..one choosing the terrible debilitation of a gambling addiction . Legalization of tobacco use does not justify, nor should the legalization be an excuse for…one using the products while knowing the well-advertised risks to personal health. Legalization of divorce does not justify, nor should the legalization be an excuse for…one choosing for himself or herself the sin, heartbreak and tragedy related to divorce. Legalization of prescription drugs does not justify, nor should the legalization be an excuse for…persons choosing to abuse either through the use or sale of…legally prescribed drugs.
It would be fair to say that the majority of pro-lifers are from the Christian population. As am I. Christian pro-lifers feel strongly against abortion and are waging war with Row vs Wade and are winning few skirmishes. But, possibly, we’re throwing arrows at the wrong target. Or maybe we shouldn’t be throwing arrows at all.
1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
Paul was reminding the people that practicing a behavior simply because it is legal to do so……is RIDICULOUS! Many things are Legal. But the legalization of the behavior does not mean the behavior is moral….or right, or beneficial. ABORTION IS LEGAL. Should women seek abortions? There are reasons one might justify seeking an abortion. One such example was on this news just this week…where an abortion was done for a nine-year-old pregnant with twins due to sexual abuse by her stepfather. Doctors warned that the pregnancy would in all likelihood kill the child because of her body size. Situations like this and similar situations are the foundation for Roe vs Wade. No situation, no crisis, no discussion relating to abortion is SIMPLE. But…if we are going to place heated blame on a target….the blame should be placed squarely on the shoulders of the woman choosing abortion for reasons other than a crises situation. Blaming Roe vs Wade is the same as blaming the crutch for a broken leg! The crutch is there for use when needed during a crisis. If we Christians are wholeheartedly going to continue to wage war on abortion….we have to clearly identify the target. The target is Lucifer…..making the war spiritual and not fleshly.
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Since the warfare is spiritual, we are helpless to wage the war to stop these senseless abortions. Notice I didn’t say Roe vs Wade is the problem. It isn’t. Roe vs Wade is not a living force and has no power to destroy life. Satan is the destroyer. The problem is a woman’s choice to place more value on relationships and/or careers… than on the clearly known miracle of procreation. Desires of the heart are clearly in the realm of the God.
Isaiah 17:47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.
Now since the ‘battle is the Lord’s’…….it’s time for we Christians to get the heck out of His way and trust Him ….at least as much as we have trusted political parties to address abortion issues. THE WAY TO FIGHT ABORTION IS SIMPLE. Pray ‘thy will be done’ concerning the desires of those who choose abortion rather than adoption. As true believers we know that whether by abortion or by natural causes…these little ones go to the place of the Father (2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord). But if the black mark on our society called ‘abortion’ is to end….it can only be done by the power of God working in the hearts of those who choose to reject one of God’s most precious gifts….the gift of a child.
