To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.
The Genesis 1:8 promise of ‘dominion’ was never intended for the carnal/sinful man. God intends ‘dominion’ only for those restored by the living presence and power of the Spirit of Christ. ‘Dominion’ was lost to Adam and Eve when they took on the spiritual DNA of the ‘fallen’ ….death….in Eden. Such authority or ‘dominion’ can be regained only as a person regains the DNA of the Father…Life in Christ.
Gen 1:8 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Okay. What part of DOMINION don’t we understand? God created man. He commanded man to ’ have dominion over…. every living thing that moveth upon the earth. On our farm, I herd the cattle back into the pasture with my little red car because I’m afraid to herd them while riding the smaller-than-they four-wheeler. And after becoming aware of an occasional black bear ranging our wooded area near the creek, when dismounting the four-wheeler in these areas..I make sure it is left in neutral and pointed towards my escape route. Though dogs don’t bite me now, I do NOT have ‘dominion over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.’
And the nature of many people is to follow and not lead. So where…pray tell…is man’s ‘DOMINION’ over every living thing that moveth upon the earth????’ Therefore, I believe we Christians have completely misunderstood God’s promise of ‘dominion.’ As Christ is the fulfillment of the LAW, He, too, is the fulfillment of DOMINION. Closely consider the following scriptures from Hebrews which discuss DOMINION.
Hebrews 2:5 says, For unto the ANGELS hath he NOT put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. 6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him?or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. BUT now we see NOT YET all thing put UNDER HIM.
9But we see JESUS, who was MADE A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, for the suffering of death, CROWNED WITH GLORY AND HONOUR; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 10For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
IN CHRIST..I have found DOMINION. It is CHRIST who is made a little lower than the angels to suffer a sacrificial death for all man. It is CHRIST who is crowned with Glory and Honour. It is CHRIST whom the Father has put all things in subjection under His feet. And because CHRIST humbled Himself to bear my sins, in CHRIST I can regain DOMINION …… over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. .
Matt 21:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
John 15: 7 IF ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
